SERVE WITH US

SERVICE IS OUR IDENTITY

"Everyone can be great because everyone can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't even have to make your subject and your verb agree... You only need a heart full of grace...a soul generated by love."

— Martin Luther King, Jr.

If you're too big to serve, then you're too small to lead. At Temple of Refuge, we believe the greatest leadership is service to others. From the parking lot to the pulpit, everyone serves.

God has blessed each of us with gifts in order to reach out, build the church, and be released to the ends of the earth. Whether it's offering a warm welcome to a visitor as part of the welcome team or serving in the community—it all matters. Every role is different, but they're all important.

Everyone Is Gifted and Needed

When you serve, you're not just helping out—you're using the gifts God gave you to touch His heart and change lives. Serving isn't just about filling roles—it's about fulfilling your calling.

Jesus didn't come to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45). When we follow His example, we reflect His heart to the world.

Note: Membership is not a requirement for serving in all areas within Temple of Refuge, but it is required for some roles. Background checks are required for all positions working with children and youth.

PRAISE TEAM (MUSIC MINISTRY)

If you are vocally or musically gifted, our Sunday morning praise band may be the place for you to serve. We're not looking for performers but for worshipers who are able to stand up front and yet fall into the background as they lead others into God's presence.

What You'll Do:

Lead Sunday morning worship, attend weekly rehearsals, learn new songs and arrangements, serve at special events and conferences, and usher the congregation into authentic worship.

Instruments Needed: Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboard, Drums, or Vocals

PRAYER TEAM

Our prayer team prays for people and the specific needs of our church. They receive regular emails that include matters for prayer and are part of our routine church prayer meetings.

What You'll Do:

Intercede for church leadership, members, and community needs; participate in weekly prayer gatherings; respond to urgent prayer requests; stand in the gap for those who cannot stand for themselves; and be part of the engine room that fuels everything we do at Temple of Refuge.

Requirements: Commitment to confidentiality and consistent prayer life.

MARRIAGE TEAM

Our marriage ministry looks to strengthen marriages through counseling, monthly meetings, and conferences—God's way, using the Bible as our guide.

Hospitality Team

The Hospitality Team is the frontline of Temple of Refuge. We're the first smile people see, the welcoming presence that makes guests feel at home, and the hands that serve behind the scenes.

Greeters

These are the first people to say hello on a Sunday morning and help answer questions for those who are new. Greeter teams serve on a rotating basis.

What You'll Do: Welcome guests at the door, direct people to classrooms and restrooms, answer questions, hand out bulletins, and create a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Ushers

Our friendly ushers help out during the Sunday service by passing out printed materials and guiding people to a seat. Ushering teams serve on a monthly rotating basis.

What You'll Do: Assist with seating, distribute bulletins and offering envelopes, help with offering collection, manage flow during special events, and ensure everyone feels comfortable and cared for.

Coffee Baristas

Help us create a welcoming atmosphere by showing up at 8:30am to begin brewing coffee, maintaining cleanliness of the area, and packing up the equipment after service. The coffee team serves on a weekly rotating basis.

What You'll Do: Arrive early to set up, brew coffee and prepare refreshments, keep the area clean and stocked, engage with guests, and pack up after service.

Become a Member

While membership is not required to serve in all areas, some leadership positions do require it. If you're ready to make Temple of Refuge your spiritual home, we'd love to walk with you through the membership process.

What Membership Means

Being a member is your way of saying, "I'm all in. You can count on me." It's also the best way to tell our church leaders, "I want your prayers, your counsel, your teaching, and your godly example."

If a church requires nothing of you as a member and commits nothing to you as a church, it is practicing meaningless membership. Membership at Temple of Refuge is a commitment to our family and a commitment from our family and pastors to you.

Our Plan for You

We encourage everyone who intends to become a member to attend services regularly for a period of three (3) months before deciding to make Temple of Refuge their spiritual home.

Step 1: Membership Class (A101)

The first step to becoming a member at Temple of Refuge, or simply learning more about what we believe, is to attend one of our membership orientation classes.

Step 2: Membership Interview

Following your Membership Class, you'll be invited to meet with a Temple of Refuge pastor for a Membership Interview. Don't be intimidated; this is simply a time for us to get to know your story more personally and answer any questions you may have about our membership.

Step 3: Finalizing Membership

Your Membership Interviewer will help you take any next steps to finalize your membership. For you, this may be helping you take a next step in serving, community, and giving. For others, it may be walking with you through any additional requirements for membership, such as baptism.

Our Commitment to Serving Well

Excellence is our spirit. When you join a serve team at Temple of Refuge, we're asking you to commit to serving faithfully and with excellence. Here's what that looks like:

I. Faithfully Serve in the Ministries of Temple of Refuge

I will use my gifts and talents to serve in one of TOR's ministries. I will give the best of my time, mind, and energy to serve excellently in supporting the values of TOR.

"Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically." — Romans 12:11 (NLT)

II. Faithfully Attend Ministry and Monthly Workers Meetings

I will faithfully attend my ministry meetings, the monthly workers (Next Level) meeting, and workers' prayer meetings. If I am unable to attend, I will notify the Coordinator of Workers' Affairs and my Ministry Leaders in writing or by email.

"Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful." — 1 Corinthians 4:2 (NIV)

III. Obey My Ministry Leaders as They Obey Christ

I will obey and submit to the authority of my Ministry Leaders in supporting God's work and the vision of TOR.

"Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that will be of no advantage to you." — Hebrews 13:17 (NIV)

IV. Support the Testimony of Temple of Refuge

I will support the testimony of TOR by living a godly life in and out of the church, doing all that I can to live in peace with every member of the church, and supporting the church with my tithes and offerings.

"I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received." — Ephesians 4:1 (NIV)
